Todays First Look is on some new wheels from Novatec.  We focused on the new light weight Flow Trails, strong and versatile Diablo AM and the burly Demon DH wheelsets.  These 3 sets of wheels are fitting for 90% of our MTN readers, although Novatec does make a broad range of wheels from road to MTN in every category.  All 3 wheel sets are handbuilt using strong and light double butted Sapim spokes, Japanese sealed bearings and feature cassettes with ABG (anti bite guard) to prevent cassettes from digging into the body on the Flow Trail and Diablos, or the super light steel cassette body on the Demon DH.  All wheels also feature the Sapim Race spokes and nipples with POLYLAX/S.I.L.S. system to prevent tensional loss and spoke bending at the nipple.  They are currently available through BikeFettish.com and coming into local bike shops now.

FlowTrail

So enter our first wheel the FlowTrail.  Targeted at as a light weight trail wheel that is still suitable for light All Mountain and Enduro riding with a retail price around $600.  Sitting at 1688 grams, they are definitely on the lighter end of the scale for an all aluminum wheel.  The front wheel uses Novatecs own 3in1 axle system converting from standard QR, QR 9mm and QR 15mm.  The rims have welded joints and single eyelets.  The rims profile features a 20mm inside bead to use up to 2.4 tires.

Although pictured here with the standard QR, the Flow Trails front wheel is also adaptable to 15QR.

Here on the Flow Trails you see the ABG or Anti Bite Guard to prevent the cassette from digging into the body.

At 1688 grams these should prove to be solid contenders in the very competitive AM/Trail wheel market.

Diablo

The Diablo features a very versatile wheelset that offers lots of axle choices using their 4in1 system and at a reasonable weight of 1883 grams and goes for $614.  Novatec classifies these wheels as 4x/Enduro/AM/FR.  The hub set that can be converted quick and easily.  The front  features standard QR, 9mm QR, 15mm and 20mm adapters and skewers.  While the rear uses standard QR, 10mm Thru QR, Thru Axle, 12mm Thru Axle and X12 Thru Axle options in a 135 width.  The Diablos have a rim profile identical to the FlowTrails but a bit stronger.

The Diablos offer 4 front axle options to make for the most versatile set in the bunch, fitting almost every fork on the market.

Even the rear wheel offers the 4 in 1 system.

The most versatile wheels in the group.

Almost forgot to mention…all these options come with the wheels. So when your ready to upgrade your fork or frame, your wheels are ready!

Demon

The Demons are Novatecs DH wheel set and are a respectable 2073 Grams, which is right in the mix of most DH wheelsets at $699.  A 20mm front hub is solid and ready for abuse.  While the 150mm rear wheels is adaptable to 12mm or X12 axles and is Maxle compatible.

20mm set and ready front hub.

The Demon DH rear comes with Novatecs super light steel cassette body to handle all the abuse of DH racing.

Maxle ready 150mm wide rear, 20mm front both rolling on Japanese sealed bearings and Sapim Race spokes….can you say SOLID!

With solid builds and versatile hubs they look to be big players in the wheel market.  The Diablos have just made a new home on our 4X bike.  A review will be on its way once we have logged some track and trail time.  The Demon DH wheels are in review as we speak and coming soon.

Looks like Novatec is gonna have a lot of riders covered with lots of choices in solid wheels for every rider.
