Your in need of a rack to carry you bikes in the most inhospitable locations. Here is the first look at a new rack from a new company from up north of the US border called TufRack. TufRack is based out of Ontario Canada and a big part of recent northshore riding and sponsor to several DH races and BMX events up north.
Here is a little from the company –
Simply put, we just got tired of fixing broken bike racks, so instead of putting up with racks that couldn’t take it, we decided to create one that could. We’re riders who saw a need, not by guys in suits who saw a way to make money.
Everything we make is made by riders who know that serious fun can only be had on serious gear. We do what we do for the love of the ride, for the love of the riding community and because we know that there’s a better way to build things. We are committed, honest, and intensely dedicated to the sport and to the craft of making great racks.
Forged from necessity, the Tuf Rack is built for the riding community by members of the riding community. Tuf Rack does what a bike rack is supposed to do – get you there and back with no hassles while taking all punishment you can dish out. Our company and our commitment to our team are as strong as our products – Guaranteed.
The TufRack features several different options holding from 1 bike up to the possibility of 10 bikes according to the company. They feature a full zinc coating on all metal and then powder coated for a durable finish. It is designed around a modular system to give you lots of options. There are 4 tray choices from BMX up to DH, and several hitch choices from flat to raised of different heights. Although if you ask nice enough I am sure they would be happy to make a custom hitch for you if your vehicle so requires it. TufRack sent us a setup to put to the test and beat up to see how it handles. And thats what we aim to do! Now this rack isn’t meant to fold, twist or do anything else than hold bikes and be TUF. No frilly stand or fancy hoops. Safety yellow is the color of choice. Simple and strong, made to get your bike there….so you can ride.

First install the receiver arm. There are 2 holes to give you an option on how close you want your bikes to your vehicle.

Next slide on the first tray to the second hole provided. It doesn’t matter which way you slide it on as you can alternate the trays or bikes either way.

Place your bike in the tray, again it doesn’t matter which way you put it in as the design works in either direction.

After draping over the frame take the ratchet end and hook it up. Pull tight the strap and ratchet down.

Here was a neat trick we came up with. using a long cable and lock, insert the loop of one end through the hitch pin (use a locking one) and thread the other end though your bikes. Then just lock the other loop to the cable it self around a bike. This allows for much more cable to be usable.
The trays can be placed in either direction and the bikes are held down with TufRacks own tie down straps. Bikes can be placed in the trays either direction as well as to avoid contact with seats and bars if necessary. Although they come in BRIGHT yellow they are playing around with other colors as well in the future..possibly a stealth black! So over the rest of the season we will be using the TufRack and seeing just how it will hold up. If this thing can hold up to Brett Tippie, then I have no doubt it will hold up just fine!
