Project DH: Marrow Drop DM stem

For project DH I spent a great deal of time looking at several options for the bikes set up and feel.  After doing all my research I felt I wanted a stem to lower my bars just a bit.  I opted for a bar with little rise without being flat, so I needed to get things just a bit lower.  After reviewing the Marrow stems for our 4X bike, I decided to see if Marrow had something in the lines of a DH stem.  A quick call and the guys at Marrow said I have just the stem your looking for!

The guys over at Marrow shaved quite a bit off this stem, it sits at a feathery 158g.

The Marrow Components “Below Zero” DM stem features the same clamping system found on the FreeRide stem from our previous review.  Extensive milling throughout with super clean lines and still nice and wide, which is great for the wider bar trend.  It dropped the  bars nearly 6mm compared to a true “Zero Rise” stem.  On our scale it sits at 158g which is pretty respectable in the Direct Mount stem market.

Here you can see the 6mm worth of drop this stem gives you.

  • Each direct mount stem is machined out of a 2lb block of USA made 6061-T6511 and utilize USA made grade 12.9 alloy hardware
  • Compatible with 31.8 oversized handlebars
  • 54mm length
  • Bottom of the bar 5.7mm below the top of the crown and is 54mm long to help get your weight over the front hub for improved front end control
  • Wide Body (2.3 inches wide)
  • Fit Fox 40, RockShox Boxxer, and Manitou Dorado and now the new 2012 Marzocchi 888 forks
  • Weight: 158 grams with hardware
  • Anodized in Black, Blue, Red Purple Green, Orange Teal and Pink
  • Made in Boise, ID USA

Cost $99.95

Here you can see the drop of the Marrow stem mounted up on the bike.

Front shot, with the same front as their other stems.

Check out the view from the top! Nice clean lines and wide contact patch with the bars.
